As this is a complete owes me nothing project car at this point I am all for
clever no dollar high labor and satisfaction fixes. Your writeup was more
than I had hoped for. My real need is for both upper trims left and right.
That is where the corrosion is and the trim is wrecked. I like both the
custom trowel and UV protected and sealed approach. I will be doing this. I
will also do some sort of cleaning and rust neutralization when I get the
old trim off. 

Your description of the troweling reminded me of old plaster guys plying
their trade. Very good and easy to follow.

I just went through this drill to replace all the window trim on my '91
Avant. All the upper trim is NLA.  I was able to get both front and rear
lower door trims and the right side rear quarter window bottom trim
