I"ve always used two small screwdrivers opposite to each other, on the
actual base of the needle. The small part, that is. This has worked on the
probably 20 or so I've taken apart.

However, this sounds pretty good as well. If it's a tapered one, it would
work even better, and probably a ton easier than two screwdrivers.
