ED-
Sorry to hear about your 'loss.' Another one bits the dust? For what it is worth, I've gone through the routine of being under-insured EVEN when begging my agent to charge whatever was necessary - as "Comps" don't really mean anything, and at the time of my accident (a 1st gear - high-torque encounter with an idiot slamming on brakes while merging onto PCH in Redondo 12 years ago). Very little body damage, but airbag, steering column/rack, headlight, and windshield from my hand smashing into it from the airbag explosion, all add-up and it looks hopeless. I got aggressive and insisted on me handling the work, not sending it to the usual shops who in this case would be not only expensive but also 'experimenting' here and there. Used airbag components, properly sourced steering rack, etc., a mechanic whom I've been working with for years, some grunt work of my own (actually up-grading to Euros in the process), etc., she came out better than before the accident. At time of the accicent it was my DD and it was NOT considered a Classic, driven very little. Your message here reminds me that maybe I should NOW look into changing the policy. I'm not into the everyday activities with the once near-cult following for this car but it seems some Used parts are plentiful - even saw a rear Lid Assembly offered for FREE out of Colorado a couple of weeks ago. Other parts, not so much. Good luck, and I hope you keep it running if at all possible!
