Boost

Strange,

Have you gone the reverse route and tried re-installing your modded ecu
in another known good car of similar boost level to see if it does it on
a different car? I did that when I suspected a bad ECU a while back in
the end proving that my ECU was fine and it was something else. Took a
while to coordinate up here in the middle of nowhere with another guy an
hour away.

Seems like you have done all the things necessary to eliminate bad
input, output and boost leaks that could throw the computer into some
sort of limp home. Seems also if your N75 checks out it should just
work. Haven't heard of much in the way of nuance with that device.

I'm still pinning for an oscilloscope after my recent diag death spiral.
Even the little DIY ones would be better than nothing. If you could tie
in and watch the knock sensor output that might somehow tell you your
timing was being pulled back near the stop if that is what it is. Seems
like that would be the most obvious choice. These older ECUs are a bit
limited in what they can tell you about what's wrong. Unlike the ODB2
stuff where you sometimes get 10 misleading codes for one bad ground.

I'm feeling your frustration and wish I could help more. I keep telling
myself I am not going to get emotionally attached to any more vehicles.
The newish A5 6sp daily driver is really nice but I can just get another
one when I wring the current one out. Some how this Avant has decided it
wants to be a dependent child of mine and yet I don't get any itemized
deduction.

regards,

jfk
