[A4] ECU acting funny

Kevin,

I had something somewhat similar - the check engine light came on, took the car to the dealer and was told that the car needed a new ECU ~ $900. The dealer reset the check engine light and it hasn't come back on in the last couple of months - knock on wood! I also showed the car to another mechanic he said ECU was fine. The error code in my case was for an engine misfire which I believe can happen once in a blue moon causing the engine light to come on.

>From my experience with dealers at times they don't know what is wrong but feel embarrassed to say so or perhaps want to get some cash out of you anyway. If the car is running fine, you should keep using it until the problem gets a little worse and can be easily diagnosed.

Dave
