[A4] Noisy starter

When I've just released the ignition-key when starting my A3 from 2000, I hear 
an unwanted sound as if the starter runs on whery high RPM for a second or two.
I've a suspision that this is due to error on the relay on the starter.

Is this serious, do I need to fix it?
If yes, how do I do it?
