Broken spark plug electrodes are not a regular daily problem but
they do happen. I had a Champion spark plug center electrode fall out of an
installed spark plug into the combustion camber of a running Chrysler 2.2l
engine. The electrode made an enormous amount of noise then apparently worked
loose causing a slightly bent engine valve and a low speed miss. I stopped using
Champion spark plugs after that incidence and a comment by my local engine
machine shop "Yeah we see them drop all the time." By the way the 2.2 ran
another 30,000 miles with the bent valve. Chrysler picked a good VW/Audi engine
from which to copy and model the 2.2l SOHC engine.
