[A4] Window problem

The drivers side window on my '96 A4 TDI just started having issues this morning. When I went out to the car, I found that the window was down. I am very careful to put the windows up, and when I got in, I found that I could not shut the window, but all the other window worked fine. I kept trying the switch and eventually it worked. I put it down again and noticed that it took some time for the switch to work again so I could put it up.
Has anyone else had this problem or got any tips on how to fix it?
