Hello Nancy.
I guessing that that you blew a fuse the moment you plugged the inverter in.
Try the inverter in another car (if you dare). If you had to assemble the
connector, perhaps you simply have something reversed or shorted together
causing the fuse to pop.
The fuse panel is hidden behind a removable panel on the drivers side. Open
the drivers door and look at the side of the dash ... this panel can be pried
off revealing the fuse box. Look in your owner's manual for more detailed
intructions. Your manual (or the table on the inside of the panel) will point
you to which fuse might be suspect. It does require a deliberate and confident
prying action ... it is held by a two or three spring-type clips that do a good
job of holding it in place.
If I recall, there are a couple of spare fuses stored in the panel ... there
are different types and are color coded ... the same color that is in the
lighter's crcuit now. Don't forget to stop at an auto parts store or dealer for
replacement fuses (keep a few in your glovebox).
Now ... all that said ... I am not a car expert either and would not rely on my
diagnosis or solution!
--hope that helps!
