[A4] rattling dashboard

I found that much of the dash is supported by a number of aluminum
extrusion brackets, and the nuts and bolts between the aluminum and
the bulkhead became loose on my 01. You can get to many of them if
you drop the glove compartment (release the hook on the left side),
go thru the fusebox (drivers side doorwell), and remove the lower
dash panel under the driver side dash. A little torquing, and a dab
of nail polish (or Loctite) cleared it right up for me.
