[A4] Front end mess

Any more word on out of warranty free repairs of the front ends on the
A4s?? I have a 99 and it has just started creaking.

A friend had the same symptoms on her  98 Passat, paid around $1200 for
repairs, then got a call from the VW dealer a few days later saying that
they were going to refund her most of the $$ as there had been a factory
recall.

I need to get this fixed NOW, I think if I go to the dealer, I have a
better chance of a refund when they finally get around to recalling the
NA cars.

Any advice??
