[A4] brake pad warning

I have an erroneous warning saying that a brake pad has worn out.
Pads are all of good thickness.

I presume the sensor consists of a wire that runs through the pad
material and that this wire gets cut as the pad wears out resulting in
an open circuit and the warning light coming on.  Is this correct?

i.e. if I bridge the wires leading to the pads, the light should go off....
