[A4] Help! Check engine light and dirty oil

I'd say it's serious, its severity depending on what happened after. Did you
drive the car? The oil should not have been dark in color unless its been
driven for at least 1000miles. Did you change the filter too?

Although I did not have this problem with my 1.8t as I was too scared of the
sludge boogeyman to let my oil changes go for more than 3500 miles with
Mobil 1 and the large Mahl filters, I have a feeling this could be your
problem (sludge buildup). If you're in the NYC area, I could scan your
computer and see what codes come up.
