[A4] Bizarre happenings ...

Hello,

I have a 1998 A4 2.8 Quattro.

When I was driving the day before, I saw this thermometer indicator on the 
dashboard and it initially beeping. I didn't know what the problem was but 
the indicator just stayed.

Yesterday, I checked my oil level and it was sort of low and I filled it up. 
But again the indicator went off several times and I ignored it. Finally I 
came to a stop at a traffic light, the battery indicator went off, the oil 
indicator went off and the car stopped.

After couple of minutes, the car started and I slowly got the car home.

What do you think could be the problem? I am sure if I take it to the dealer 
he is going to come up with a $2000 repair which is usually the case. BTW, I 
just replaced the control module 6 months back which was around $2000.

Any ideas/suggestions?
