I think I'm getting scared off. I have just learned from the
seller that the car still has its original timing belt. She
writes: "According to Audi spec's at each major service from
90-115,000 the timing belt must be checked, and if shows
wear and tear replaced. Frank (my mechanic) said that when
he did the 115,000 the timing belt was in great condition,
so he did not change it."
Yikes. And to think I thought it would be fun to take a road
trip home from SF to Seattle in a new (to me) car. Images of
being stuck in Redding with bent valves....

I am considering buying an '02 A4 avant that has 115k miles.
Does anyone have advice for things to look out for on cars
with this many miles? I asked the seller to confirm that the
timing belt has been replaced. She says there is a power
steering leak that requires fluid to be added every 3 months
or so. Any thoughts about clutch longevity? I know it varies
by driver and conditions. Anything else?
Wow, lotta miles, getting a good deal, I hope.... I would
look closely at any slduge repairs that may have been done
in the past, hopefully they have a record of the maintenance
work. Oh and check on the price of the PS leak repair.
