Oh...the sludge thing - well if you're not using Syn oil on these little
turbo engines then you're asking for trouble.... FWIW I've recently
switched to Rotella from M1 - which I understand ain't what it used to
be.  This from a Lister from another forum who I know well and I know he
is very knowledgeable WRT oil - coming from heavy equipment maintenance
mgmt and such....

So anybody who's thnking about oil - look into Rotella.  No I have no
stock in Shell...just keeping the banter up..

my 98 was awesome also, took a lot of abuse, i think the main problem is

people not changing the oil on time or using shit oil

so whats  been the problem?  other than the early timing belt stuff.
My
late '98 has been incredibly reliable, now w/ 97k mi, all but  19k
chipped....

I did have a POS (?- I think thats what it was - the  little elec thing
on the airbox) go out a year or so ago- but that is the  _only_ engine
related fix I've  needed....
