[A4] Cruise Control Quit

Hello Stephen,

We had the same experience on my wife's 2002 A4 Avant 1.8T.  The cruse just
suddenly stopped working. The car was still under warranty so it went back
to the dealer. 15 minutes later it was fixed. Reloading the software on the
engine management computer fixed the problem. When I asked for more detail
the explanation was that the setting for enabling the cruse function was set
to "off" and using the diagnostic tools it was turned back to "on". That
sounded kind of like a BS explanation since cruse is standard on all of
these cars.

This was a very early 2002 and what I suspect really happened is that there
was a software update that was loaded to "fix" a seldom occurring cruse
control bug. The fix at the dealer was just too fast. Like they already knew
what was wrong when we made the service appointment. The cruse has worked
perfectly since.

As always your experience may vary, this was just happened to us. Is your
2002 an early car? There were a lot of changes between 2001 and 2002 for the
A4.

Well, the Cruise Control on my 2002 A4 3.0 wouldn't turn on
yesterday. It was working fine a couple of days ago. I haven't done any
further investigation, but thought that I would check out the
'collective' to see if there have been any BTDTs.
