Subject: [A4] Cruise Control Quit - 2002 A4 3.0
Well, the Cruise Control on my 2002 A4 3.0 wouldn't turn on
yesterday. It was working fine a couple of days ago. I haven't done any
further investigation, but thought that I would check out the
'collective' to see if there have been any BTDTs.
It's almost certainly the stalk switch. The design is pathetically
bad: sliding Nickel plated contacts on a bare copper circuit board.
The copper oxidizes badly from day one. You can fix it by replacing
the switch or by taking it apart and using Scotchbrite on the board
to clean it.
There used to be a good article with pic's on how to do this, but
I can't find it anymore. Basically remove the air bag, the steering
wheel, the switch assembly, disassemble the switch, clean, and
reassemble. I just did mine, actually!
