[A4] Maintenance nightmare ....

Hello,
I recently had the ABS and Brakes come up on my dashboard. I took it to Audi
and they said the ABS control unit needs to be replaced along with one other
part. Net is .... a damage of $1300.
I have a 1998 A4 2.4 Quattro (115K miles) and like it when it does not have
problems.
I seem to incur about $1500 to $2000 every year over the last 3 years. In
fact, when I took my car for service in June, the Audi service rep.
mentioned various parts that needed to be replaced all for about $2500. This
didn't include the ABS/brake stuff. I didn't want him to fix anything then.
My question to you all is: Is it normal to incur around $2000 every year? My
car I bet is not worth more than $9000.
