IIRC, not on a '98 A4, since it's not Drive By Wire. However, the cruise 
controller may have a fuse. Not sure what codes relating to the cruise 
control might be present in the ECU, but probably none. I used to have a 
Bentley Manual for my 'ex' '98, but sold it after I traded the '98 in 
for my '02, otherwise I might have been able to provide more detail.

The switches in the cruise control stalk seem to be a weak point on 
these cars. Are you sure that the cruise has been turned on?
