[A4] ABS Module

Mine did the exact same thing. I removed the module on a Sunday (and covered the assembly with plastic and tape). Mailed it off to www.modulemaster.com and got it back on that Friday. Replugged it in and all was fine.

You can drive with the module removed but be careful the rear bias is off slightly. The site has removal instructions on it and it took about 20 mins to remove and 20 to replace.

A pretty easy fix...

Just purchased '99 A4 1.8t avant w/ 230k miles and always dealer
serviced (until now). ABS light illuminates, brake light flashes and
intermittent warning tones sound while driving. Often they stop while
driving and all seems well; sometimes they don't stop until car is
re-started. Doesn't happen every drive and doesn't seem correlated
with any event. Dealer told PO the "ABS module" would need replacing
to fix the problem and quoted 700 or so. Any input?

Bad ABS brain.

You can either buy a rebuilt one, or I happen to have one for sale from
my wrecked '01 S4.

the module numbers have to match from the brain, they have like 3 different
ones from every year, unless maybe vagcom can recode it?

No clue. I didn't know they had to match, although I suspect you can
recode via vag com.
