I see people mentioning Auto and Econ, but I don't see anyone mentioning
the defog setting. In my '97 A4 2.8q I've always felt it's ability to
defog the windows, especially the front and side, was awesome. My wife and
I have gotten into the car on a chilly winters night after getting out of
the hot tub, both of us with wet hair, and the defogger has been able to
keep up with it.
The defrost setting, as I understand it, runs the A/C. It has always
worked well for me.
For the back window, I use the rear defroster and have had similar good
results with it, though it takes a bit longer than the front.
