The swap you are considering needs to be checked carefully for the 2.8l V6
crankshaft flywheel compatibility with a manual transaxle. Many other Audi
postings indicated that automatic V6 engines
could not be may be work in swaps for damaged V6 5 speed manual transaxle
cars. I think your V6 to 1.8l turbo has too many issues to be practical. I can
think of a lot of parts that do not interchange-
like the ECU wiring harness, radiators, lock carrier, flywheels, clutches. I
have not tried to match the V6 back of block to a 1.8l turbo transaxle case
but I would be surprised that they match up. The quattro final drive ratios are
probably not the same, springs rates are different between the 2.8l V6
and 1.8l turbo. I have had a lot of A4s of both engine types to rebuild and
it is hard enough and
expensive enough just to uses the original part designs. I am repairing 2001
S4 right now and the cost for the new unique dealer only parts is very high
even with a wholesale discount.
