[A4] Tie-down point on the front of an A4

Glenn,

I transport a canoe on the top of my 2002 A4. I drilled a couple of 
holes through the front licence plate & right through the aluminum 
bumper core. I 'fabbed' a bracket that passed through the bumper core & 
out the front of the plate to use as a front tie point. I remove the 
bracket when not carrying the canoe. The holes in the plate are barely 
noticeable. I can send/post some pics if this is an option for you.

I'm not sure about the 2006 A4, but another possibility is to use the 
front towing point. On my car there is a 'cap' on the right side of the 
front bumper cover that covers a threaded hole into which the tow hook 
(part of your tool kit) screws. I didn't like this option because of its 
off-centre location. However, if your kayak can be mounted off-centre, 
this might be a solution.
