[A4] Remove the Stub Axle flange, A4 (B6)

Thanks again for all the responses. I did end up lowering the subframe to finally get it out. Maybe with the lower sport package that is necessary??

I can see now that the springiness that I referred to is normal--caused by what the ETKA calls the "thrust piece" and "pressure spring" for the FEP and GBF ATs.

I was able to separate the flange and shaft from the bracket by using two spare subframe bolts screwed into the flange that were long enough to press against the bracket. Still have to get the new oil seal pressed in and put everything back.

ONE MORE QUESTION. There was ATF NOT gear oil on the this part and dripping out of the bearing. Is that normal?? (5 speed AT)

On mine, I only pulled the flange.. I never pulled the bracket, you may have to lower the subframe to get the bracket out.

No speed sensor on the mounting bracket on mine. The bracket and the flange are free of the tranny. I can slide them out together about 8 inches, but then I can't slide it between the subframe and the body of the car. All those points on the bracket hit the subframe and an edge of the body as shown in the pictures. Rotating it just right I can get it over the subframe, but it still hits the body above.

    It's the 5 speed tranny, 2003.

Did you remove the speed sensor, I replaced the same seal on my b5 auto and my flange simply slid out after removing the bolt for the flange.
    Good luck,

I have a leak from my left drive axle (USA, driver's side) automatic

How do I pull the stub axle out??? (I've already removed the cv-joint /
      drive axle).
According to the Bentley manual you turn the mounting bracket a bit and slip
it out between the body and the subframe, but it doesn't look possible.
      These pictures show the problem:

No amount of turning seems to help.

Also when I reinsert the stub axle I can push it in so that the teeth
engage, but then the bracket stops about 1/4" from the tranny. I can push it
flush but it springs back. Is that normal?

      Thanks for any answers,
