Peter: You don't have to mess with the tank! What makes the job possible
without moving the tank is customizing the 12 point bit to make it shorter.
The standard bit is too long to fit into the space with the tank in place.
Cut off the silver part that normally attaches to a ratchet. Don't cut too
much off the shaft of the bit the first time--you may have too cut off a
little at a time to get it to fit into the limited space. After the filter
is replaced, I just wedged the filter back in place and it never moved even
without the bolt and strap. Hope this helps. I struggled with this the
first time too.
