ok - I'll chime in also. New to the list.

have owned 5 Audis - 2 4k 5+5 and 3 91 200q's - been on the Audi lists since mid 96 when I bought the 1st 91 200q.

Looked at a 99 A8 the other day with 85k miles - I doubt there is much known history on it. Asking $12999 - seemed a tad high. Car appeared to be pretty clean visually and the lot guy claimed 26 mpg from Salt Lake City to Helena, MT cruising around 80. 

I confess to not knowing too much about the A8 - what are things to look for and what are the high $$$$$$ items that need to be replaced in the 80-120k mileage range?

I just want to introduce myself to the A8 listers. My name is Tomas and I am picking up my 1999 A8  this Saturday. This wil be the  fourth AUDI that I've gone through. I had an 87' 5000cs turbo, a 93' 90cs and a 90' V8 quattro. I guess like all the Audifiles I'm a glutton for punishment. I want to thank all of you in advance for your input.
