[A8] Anyone looking for an '99 A8 project car in CA?

My '99 A8 has a serious problem which I don't have time or interest in resolving.

Due to an apparently faulty fuse, a possibly minor short has melted one of the main internal wires; basically to be safe one should go through and check/replace most of the internal wiring of the car.

Other than that, and a broken right rear view mirror, everything works on the vehicle: transmission was replaced at 95K miles (present mileage 135K), all internal systems (were) functional: air conditioning, power windows/seats (except I think head rests and 'rise' part of seat; back tilt and seat tilt ok), seat heating, radio, 6 CD player in trunk, etc etc.

Car's physical location is in San Francisco, CA. I can probably spend about $1K or so and get it to the point of starting (hence driveable) but it will have a significant chance of having a problem in the future unless said work is done.
