When you look at most cars with a trailer hitch, you can see a square piece of tubing that ball goes into when you are not towing - it usually hangs below the bottom of the bumper.  I made mine so it was vertical instead of horizontal.  It is COMPLETELY hidden when the hitch is not in use.  I would not sugest this setup for anything more than light towing.  I tow a small utility trailer and boat sometimes - the car really isn't made for towing so you wouldn't want to haul heavy weight anyway.
