I bought the car that way, previous owner told me all he did was delete the rear muffler. I just bought it for the trans to go in my other Black A8. Plus its got the upgraded arm rest and a few other goodies. Only paid $1500 for it. Salvage title, damaged drivers side rear ¼ panel, Ins. totaled it out.

 

Start with the trans filter and fluid change-but the trans is a weak point. Hardly worth the $3500-5000 to have fixed. Money better spent on a newer model facelift D2 01-03 with the 40v engine.

 

I would just redo the wires on the ABS sensors. Did this on one side of mine. See audi pages

Very nice - so it sounds like you had the same plan I did.  I was planning on taking the massive back box off and putting in pipes with resonated tips.
