I did go on Saturday to the Historics and had a good time as always.
I didn't see if Audi had a tent this year, but they did have a handful
of cars in the paddock. I saw one wide-looking A6 Avant and started to
wonder... and sure enough, it was an S6 Avant. Nice looking car--of
course! Standard S-series Avus wheels.
Autoweek said recently that AoA is bringing only the Avant, which seems
odd, but perhaps they don't want to crowd the A6 4.2?
Bentley did have their Le Mans car up on a nice display, along with a
number of historic cars. The oldest age group out on the track was
filled with Bentleys--one of which defied convention with a beautiful
dark blue exterior.
The late 50's races were very good this year, with more Ferraris than
I've seen there before. And the 1968-1983 Formula One event at the end
also had a stronger field, with a number of Williams, McLarens, and a
Lotus 49B. The paddock had an excellent display for these cars, with
signage in front of each telling its story.
