[ba] BA source for low cost parts?

... while I know Chris Semple of Force 5 well and completely agree that he
is a great source of used parts at fantastic prices, I thought I would add a
caveat that he is located in New Hampshire, and cars do not fare as well in
the environment there as they do here.  If you are looking to buy parts that
may have been exposed to the environment, expect a bit more rust than you
would see on a car in a local yard.  

In addition to the yards up in Sacramento, I would add that German Auto
Salvage up in Emeryville is a bit closer, and tends to have a good selection
of parts for the 1980's models.  For new OEM parts my first choice is TPC
... http://www.thepartsconnection.com ... I often check the weekly specials
pages for good prices.  I also have had pretty good luck with GPR (Perman
Parts and Restoration) down in southern California.  Blaufergnugen is
another source, but IME you need to comparison shop to make sure that you
are getting the best price.  As was pointed out before, do not overlook
Carlsen P/A/VW in Palo Alto.  In addition to telling the person in parts
that you are on the Internet Quattro list make sure to ask for aftermarket
parts if available.  I've found many times that Carlsen can get such parts
at a price that is tough for others to beat.
