They replaced the trim with the windshield ... this was a couple years ago,
and it sounds as though things may have changed. I couldn't remember the
name last night when I posted, but the new glass was Sigla ... it may have
even had the Audi rings ...

hi all,

i'm in the same boat. steve, did what did safelite do about the stainless
trim around the windshield in your V8Q? did they just use rubber, put new
stainless on or reuse the old trim?

i have a cracked windshield on my 200q20v. was gonna go to US autoglass in
hayward. only $239 installed. but it's GGN (mexican made glass?) and they
didn't have the stainless trim - which i of course NLA. i'll need to see if
they can reuse the existing trim.

i also don't think sigla makes the windshield anymore. and US autoglass also
carries pilkington, but they said that pilkington doesn't make a windshield
for the 200. is this true?

see ya,m

insurance company sent out a Safelite van. I think I was lucky because the
guy driving the van was from eastern Europe and was an Audi fan ... but the
new windshield was the same manufacturer as is in my other V8Q (the glass
removed for this replacement was not, I think the windshield was replaced
before). The installer knew that Audi specified a specific adhesive be
used, and he made sure that he used it. I've dealt with Safelite before (I
think it was when my Fox was broken into) ... every time I got better than
expected service, and with no extra fees.

Thanks Steve for the tip.

I googled safelite and it's a real mixed bag of reviews, some good and
some bad (there is even a dedicated website of pissed safelite customers).
Anyway, looks like as of a few years ago they no longer carry OEM
windshields, and there are reports that their own windshields are
crap. Anyway, I filled out their online quote form and it says that
a rep will contact me. I'll see what happens.
