thanks george - tell me more about this torque converter issue. or , more to the
point- the tiptronic TQ what the heck is that? i assume the main TQ for the
tranny is fine? how much is the tip TQ to fix?
and from my limited research, it seems the auto trannies in the MBZ C series
have problems too.
when did the tip start with the audi? 1998 or 1999? they had issues until 2005,
right?
man, i'm leaning towards finding a low mile example of my wife's 97 12V A4.
or, gasp - a lexus GS300? or maybe an infiniti I30? that's basically a jazzed up
maxima, right?
thanks,
Robby

At 126K miles the check engine light on my 2001 allroad thinks the torque
converter is going bad. A few months ago I had it flushed and fresh juice
put in, but the light remains on. And, I don't have to smog it until this
time next year. I have done the front air bags, thermostat and timing belt
so it will probably run until I have to smog it or the TQ gives out. After
that gets fixed it will probably be good for another 100K miles....
I still prefer the '91 20 Avant with all new undercarriage rubber, shocks
and brake hoses. At 313,000 miles it still pulls 1.8 and goes like hell.
With these cars it is not about the money or market value. After a point it
becomes repaired reliability and a low cost but fun ride.
