Its true, the engine block in those cars is great. I guess that is why they give you a 100K mile warranty on it.
But I had a 2000 Jetta VR6 and it was just trouble... and my friend had the same car, and his was trouble... Only real "engine" problem was that his water pump went with under 20k on the car. My Jetta would have cost about 5k in fixing it if I didnt have the warranty for the first 2 years...
SOOOO.. I sold it and got my S4.... Love it!
I Guess, my point is that the reliability of quality of the new jetta seemed so bad, that a case of bad lifters could have just been another sign of that poor quality... Maybe a bad oil pump... who knows...
