Scott,
If I understand what you are thinking of then I recommend against it. Having
just replaced my Euro suspension (springs and shocks) with H&R coilovers I
can tell you that the difference is fantastic. Furthermore how can you be
sure that Audi Euro springs will match the Bilstein shocks?
I too was worried about lowering. My H&Rs are not set to the highest
position and I'm not really having bottoming out problems. Admittedly I need
to drive really slowly over the speed-bumps where I live, however they
really are harsh bumps. I also bottomed out once whilst driving really fast
down a road with a big dip, but that was just my over-enthusiasm after
driving back from the tuner :-) I think if I had the H&Rs raised to the max
then these problems will go away, but I have no plans to do so at the
moment.
Even if you don't like the H&Rs I'm sure that there are plenty of other
brands which are also a lot better than the Euro suspension.
And don't say that US roads are worse than UK roads as I've driven on both
and ours are much the same.
Still, if you go ahead then it'll prove interesting: If you think that the
Euro springs are better then it'll prove how really bad the US ones are!

Subject: [BiturboS4] Euro springs
There's been a lot of talk lately about the Euro S4s being lower & a bit
stiffer. Well, this sounds like a good thing to me, so I'm working w/Josh
Decker (local here in Redmond, WA) to get a set imported for my Avant -- to
go w/the Bilsteins I have sitting on the bench in the garage. I'm looking to
lower the car slightly, and stiffen it up enough so I don't bottom-out, and
the Euro springs sound like the closest thing I've found so far.
I've seen a bunch of Euro S4 pics, and frankly I can't tell whether they're
really lower or not. For instance, the Tiff Needle RS4 video has a pic of an
S4 Avant, and it easily looks as jacked-up as mine.
But, at least now we'll know for sure. I'll report back w/some data when
things come together.
