Unless I'm missing something, you can still insert your key into
the driver's door lock cylinder and unlock the car the old fashioned way.
Once you're in the car you can pop the hood and charge battery/jump start
car...

I note that some newer cars (e.g. some Renaults and Mercs) have a smart card
to open the door and operate the car. Presumably these cars will also be
supplied by a 'real' key for emergencies, but I doubt that many people will
carry them (probably leave them at home, or worse leave them in the glove
compartment!).
