I think this is because it's a four wheel drive car and most emissions tests
are designed for two wheel drive cars. Mine is exempt too, but there's still an
exhaust test that it goes through, just not the rolling test.

I track mine on my PDA (see how it changes with mods, driving style, etc.). You
can too: just reset the odometer next time you get gas. Then the following
fill-up, look to see how many miles you've driven and how much gas you've used.
Divide and conquer. I find the trip computer a bit off (the same way when it
says I have zero miles left on my tank, I only put 14 gallons in the car).
