Hey Gang,
Yesterday (Monday), I paid a visit to my local Audi dealer to have a recall item (new fan cover) taken care of. While waiting for service to do their magic on my 00 S4, I struck up a conversation with the sales guy who sold me my S4 (it was around lunch time and they were just lounging around).
The sales guys claim that Audi NA (North America) told them "that the 2.7TT engine is history after model year 2003 and only the RS cars (sold in ltd capacity in the NA mkt)will get TT engines (after MY 2003), and it will be the 8 cyl TT. Apparently, Audi has decided to discontinue the 6 cyl TT.
Now, this guy tried to claim that the 2.7TT could not meet the new EPA requirements in the USA. I told him that I didn't think that was believable since the 8 cyl TT was coming to US shores (albeit in ltd nbrs in the RS6) and this was basically the same engine.
He then backed down and admitted that the decision to discontinue the 2.7TT was probably more for economic reasons (why have TWO prodution lines making TT engines, 1 for 6 cyl & 1 for 8 cyl) than environmental - which was my argument.
He also mentioned that the 2.7TT is NOT planned for the Audi TT, to the best of his knowledge (for what its worth).
I recently bought out the lease on my 00 S4, and now I am glad that I did. The biturbo S4 will soon become a limited production run (2000-2002) and its value should remain the same or possibly increase due to limited inventory
Just wanted to pass this tidbit along.
