I had turbos replaced on my 2001.5.. after 5 K. Metalic sound coused the replacement. No Chip....

tell. There are almost NO stories of failed turbos from 2001.5 on (when they
increased the oil line size). Prior to that, there were many. I think Audi
realized this and made the fix, but a small mistake like that can cost the
company millions.

Per jy's comment, the engine can more than adequately handle the turbo
pressure, it's just the turbos themselves that are being destroyed. In
reference to Walter's comment, consider the RS4, which has a ton more pressure
(and engine stress). How many blown ENGINES has anyone heard of? None here.

I'm careful with my car (10-15 minute warm up before I spool, cool down period,
don't run the car without a load on the engine) and I have very little concern
about turbo failure, due to lack of blown turbos as of late. That said, I will
be VERY gun shy about buying a first run car in the future; it took Audi 1.5
years to figure out the problem and implement changes in manufacturing to
remedy it.
