Bruce, I'm interested in knowing more details on your extended warranty. Our
local dealer is quoting us ~$2300 for a 3/100 with a ~100 deductible (which
I don't care about -- this is for the big ticket items, IMO.

By the way, your calculations below look a bit weird. $120/mo for 36 months
isn't $1600...

Why not just buy an extended warranty? We love the cars, but the fact is
that they are high performance twin-turbocharged cars, so life expectancy is
shorter than the average Taurus, we drive harder, and parts are more
expensive. Reliability or Audi's quality aside (and those are big asides), I
think we all knew coming in that these were not Honda Accords.

But a good warranty, with essentially bumper-to-bumper coverage for 3/100
(so you get 3 yrs and whatever miles are remaining on the way to 100K) is
only about $120 a month ($1600 total) with zero deductible, rental and
towing coverage, etc. That seems more than reasonable to me, and I've taken
advantage of that warranty many times on my previous car, a 1993 S4.

Two of us UrS4 owners organized a group buy on the warranty. Email me for
details, but suffice to say I am getting the same warranty again on my
new-to-me 2001 S4.
