I am at 50k and considering an after-market warranty. I purchased one on my '94
RX-7, quite a while ago, for about $1,800. Four months later they shelled out
close to $10,000 for new engine and turbos. Later broke a synchro on fifth
gear. They paid for that also. In researching warranty companies, I found that
many do not cover twin turbos. I realize why after I took them to the cleaners.
I used warrantygold.com. I have nothing but nice things to say about them. They
did not hassle me at all. They sent an inspector to look at the car and agreed
with the mechanic. At the time only the turbos were blown and the mechanic
convinced the inspector that if the turbos were replaced without a new engine
that I would be back in a week with a blown engine. Everything got covered but
the exhaust that was ruined because of the oil blowing into the cats.
For those with chips and other mods, you may have some issues. I would bet that
the warrant companies are going to have a problem with them.
