I would expect a response as follows:

"Please bring your car in ASAP and we'll scan the code and see what the
problem is. If you feel anything that leads you to believe the car is unsafe
to drive, have it towed in to us through road side assistance."

I am about 7 miles from my service dealer, so I usually drive my faults into
the dealer for scanning. Then we determine the best time for repair. We're
pretty experienced at this, as I've had about 20 check engine lights.
