It doesn't have to be exactly the 10K miles mark... this depends also
on how long it's been since your last service. The factory interval is
every 10K or 1 year (whichever occurs first).
I do an extra oil and filter change in between the dealer service
intervals myself. It's easy, and I have VAG-COM which can be used
to clear the service interval reminder display. You can also clear
it via the instrument cluster buttons, I think (check Audiworld
tech articles for info).
I recommend using Mobil 1 0W-40 "European formula" (black cap) oil
and OEM filter regardless. If you have your dealer do this, you can
bring the oil and ask them to use it instead of their standard oil.
