I don't think it's the thermal plate. I had the problem once, and it sounds
like a metalic vibration beetwen 1000 and 2500 rpm, not a whine.

I have a 2001 S4 Avant with 79k miles and I drive it extremely hard. I
had an APR chip installed at 10k miles, APR Bi pipe, and Forge diverter
valves. I have always been cautious warming up and cooling down but
recently I developed a whine when the turbos spool up and it's really
pronounced when it's cold. I have not experienced a loss in power and
wondering if it might be a loose heat shield. In addition, I don't see
any fault codes with my vag-com. Does anyone know what it might be? If
it is my turbos, it looks like I have to step up to the RS4 set up. TIA
Regards,
Brock Campbell
