Probably the door-closed position switch (which is integral with the
door lock assembly, I think) is defective or had become maladjusted.

You can probably fix this yourself if you're half-way mechanically inclined.
The Bentley CD service manual should have the info on how to do this.  If you
don't have a copy of it yet, buy it along with your VAG-COM from Ross-Tech.
You'll get a discount when you do it that way.
