[BiturboS4] it finally happened

Also, one thing people fail to point out about the bi-pipe is that it's made
out of METAL and, therefore, gets very hot and, therefore, makes the air going
into the engine hotter than if you stuck with the stock plastic one. People go
to great lengths to cool their intake charge (intercoolers, air/alcohol
misters, etc.) and this bi-pipe thing does the opposite. IMHO, no need for
the bi-pipe...just inspect your throttle-body boot once in a while and use the
VAG tool to monitor your car.

When I first got into tuning my S4, I got sucked into thinking I had to have
all of these parts to make my car go fast. Then my wallet shrank to nothing
and I started thinking harder about each purchase. I did a lot of reading and listening
to other's experiences and I realized that a lot of these parts aren't
necessary. A stock TBB (throttle body boot) is as good as an aftermarket SAMCO
one or the APR bi-pipe (or worse, see first paragraph). A stock diverter valve
(DV) is fine if it doesn't leak...and it ever offers quicker boost/vaccuum
response than the large/heavy aftermarket ones (ever tried comparing...to me
its obvious). Sure, these things might fail sooner than the aftermarket ones,
but why not just monitor your car along the way and replace as needed? It's much
cheaper to swap in a new TBB ($12) or a pair of Bosch sport DVs ($50) than to
go with the aftermarket ones. Oh well, just one train of thought versus
another I suppose.

Regardless of your train of thought I think EVERYONE should have the
following: VAG tool ($199), boost gauge (around $250), and the knowledge to
inspect your throttle body boot and diverter valves (free and available here
or on AudiWorld). It's also very helpful to have an intake pressure tester
($15 from AWE plus $20 for air at Home Depot) so that you can see if you have
any boost leaks. All of this is CHEAP (compared to the mods we do), FUN, and
helps you avoid costly problems.

Just my $.02.

Carter.
