Had an opportunity to "race" a BoxterS this last weekend. I was casually driving
my girlfriend to see the sunset when a young guy and his girl sped by in the
left lane with their top down and music crankin'. I tailed him for a few
blocks (enough so that he noticed me) and was behind him at the next light
(other lanes were taken...else I would have dragged him). Light turns green
and he takes off (not a perfect start by him because I didn't hear any tires
squeal). I punch it but don't drop the clutch because I'm right behind him and
don't want to nail his back. We were in the city and so couldn't go all
out...but I redlined 2nd and got decently into 3rd. I stuck on him the whole
way but I was going 100%. I bet if I were next to him I might have been able
to *slightly* gain on him through the gears but I have to say that it seemed
pretty even to me (wasn't really gaining on him nor loosing ground). We had
to shut it down and calm down because the traffic was tight.
I didn't realize those Boxters were that fast (or my car that slow??). But,
after checking the Porsche website today I noticed that the BoxterS is 260hp
and 0-62mph in 5.7...so I guess that's about right (about 5.5 to 60mph for
both our cars)? Hmm....any comments?
Best part about it was that I had my ski/bike racks on and my bike on top so
it must have looked pretty funny to see a functional sedan keep on the butt of
a Porsche convertible.
Carter.
