I think I figured out my boost problem. Thought I'd share. I just got my car
back from the 20k service at the dealer. All they did was change fluids and
check stuff. They said nothing was wrong with the turbos or intake (TBB,
hoses, etc.). I was puzzled....BUT, when I drove away, I noticed that the
stock chip was giving me about 1 psi more of max boost and was settling
slightly higher than when I brough it in to the dealer. It was a small change,
though, and so I wasn't making any conclusions until I put back my GIAC chip.
SO, I went right home and put back my GIAC and, voila, I'm now getting 19psi
spikes and 16-17psi plateaus. Since they didn't do any major work on the car,
my guess is that it was the air filter. They replaced it as part of their
service. Now that I look back, I remembered that i had forgotten to change the
filter at the oil changes in between 10k-20k miles because I had them done at
the local Jiffy Lubes (oil only)!!! Ouch. I think that's it (but not
certain). I wish I had taken some MAF g/s readings before and after to be
sure. In any case, I'm back to normal boost. Phew! Thanks for any/all
feedback.
