I've been playing with the idea of a turbo timer for some time now. I've read
the archives for this group and I've reviewed a number of products. I must say
I only get more indecisive as the process goes on. Some posts are "For" and
others are "Against". Most of the "Against" votes seem to be more regarding
the "unattended running car" arguement.
There are apparently two methods of implementation, one is to run the engine
for a user determined amount of time and one is to wire the TT in such a way as
to run only the circulating pump and fan (have not located the specifics on
this method yet).
I spoke with an APR dealer in my area about this (when calling about the Direct
Port "chipping") who indicated that this mod is *not* recommended. No solid
reason was given, just that driving easy for the last mile or so would do the
job just fine. They did not like the concept of a 6-spd running in neutral
unattended and they felt the "circulating pump only" method (which they have
never done) would not cool the oil.
I have to climb over 1500 feet (within 6 miles) in elevation to my home,
regardless of how I drive, the oil temp is typically 250F (or more) when I park
in the garage. I always let it run ... sometimes I forget it's running and it
runs for 15 to 30 minutes! And there is my problem.
Short of using an egg-timer to remind me to shut it off, it seems my solution
is a TT ... any thoughts? What are the *technical* drawbacks (read: does it
*hurt* to have one)? Any thoughts on which device is best for "fit and finish"
install (I've looked at Greddy and Defi-HUD)? I found a tech article on
installing the Greddy on audiworld.com, so I am leaning that direction (if I
get one at all!).
Once again ... thanks in advance for any input!
